Masters best bets: Odds and top dark horse picks to win 2026 green jacket The Masters has been dominated by favorites in recent years. Could that change in 2026? The first major of 2026 contains a field of 91 golfers vying for the coveted green jacket. Scottie Scheffler – the World No. 1 golfer who has won two of the last four Masters tournaments – is favored to earn his fifth major title. Not far behind are a couple of LIV Golf staples, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau.
And, of course, there's Rory McIlroy, who finally completed the career Grand Slam at last year's tournament, earning a playoff victory over Justin Rose to earn his fifth major title. That said, there are a handful of long shot golfers who could emerge as contenders at the Masters. Here's a look at the long shots to watch as the 2026 Masters arrives. Masters sleeper picks: Long shot expert predictions Odds via BetMGM as of Wednesday, April 8.
Akshay Bhatia (+5500) Winners at the Masters have gotten 36% of their total strokes gained from approach play since 2015, according to The Athletic's Justin Ray. That could position Bhatia – who ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in SG:APP with an average of 0.792 per round – to contend for his first major win. Bhatia has also made nearly 90% of his total putts from within 10 feet, which ranks 26th on Tour and has helped him log five consecutive top-20 finishes entering the Masters.
His overall accuracy should allow him to avoid critical mistakes while his previous experience at the major – he finished T-35 in his debut in 2024 before logging a T-42 in 2025 – make him an intriguing value pick for this year's event. Nicolai Hojgaard (+6600) Like Bhatia, Hojgaard is appearing in his third Masters. The Danish golfer's best finish came in his 2024 debut, when he finished T-16 after shooting an impressive first-round 67.
Consistency has avoided Hojgaard at Augusta since, though, but he has the profile needed to emerge as a green-jacket contender. Hojgaard can shorten the course at Augusta National thanks to his ninth-ranked driving distance. He also ranks 12th in SG:APP and ninth in putting inside of 10 feet, giving him the tools needed to go low if his tee-to-green game is at its peak.
Add in Hojgaard's good form – he has yet to miss a cut in 2026 and is fresh off a second-place finish at the Houston Open – and it could be worth backing him to get his first PGA Tour win on its biggest stage. Jake Knapp (+6600) Knapp has been in excellent form to open the 2026 PGA Tour season, finishing T-11 or better at six of his first seven events.
He leads the circuit in total strokes gained (SG:Total) while displaying a well-rounded game with great distance off the tee, accuracy into the green and putting skills. The concern with Knapp? He has only once made the cut in four major appearances, and that was the 2024 Masters, at which he finished T-55. His lack of major success, plus his missed cut at this year's Players Championship, makes him a risky sleeper to back.
Still, his recent form and overall performance give him considerable upside on a course that fits his game well. Jacob Bridgeman (+8000) Bridgeman leads the PGA Tour in SG:Putting to open the season, and has also recorded the lowest 3-putt percentage among 169 qualified golfers. The 26-year-old's great putting has helped him to log top-20 finishes in all eight of his events this season, including a win at The Genesis Invitational and a T-5 finish at The Players Championship.
The issue with Bridgeman is he has never before been to the Masters. Only three players have ever won in their first appearance at the event, with the most recent being Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979, so it's tough to trust Bridgeman to win in his debut at one of the PGA Tour's most difficult courses. Still, Bridgeman's elite putting skills and strong approach game (22nd in SG:APP) make him a fine long shot to consider. Sam Stevens (+20000) If you're looking for a mega-long shot, Stevens could be worth considering.
He has a profile that could work at Augusta, as he ranks 17th in strokes gained off the tee (SG:OTT), 10th in greens in regulation percentage (GIR %) and 29th in 3-putt avoidance. The issue with Stevens is the same as it is with Bridgeman. He is a first-time competitor at Augusta, so the 29-year-old faces a tough learning curve in his first appearance at the major. But after finishing fifth at the Houston Open, Stevens is still worth considering as a flier or a potential top-20 finisher.
